Chair ×5 is one POS line.
Separate sale, Admin cleanup, note, tag, or spreadsheet.
Which customer is still owed the fifth chair?
Choose exactly how many units the customer takes today and how many stay open for later pickup—without turning one sale into two transactions.
Shopify already handles many mixed fulfillment workflows. The awkward edge remains when part of the same variant quantity leaves now and the balance should stay open.

4 today · 1 later.
CounterDue verifies Shopify before changing fulfillment.
1 unit remains open until the customer collects it.
Why this is narrow on purpose: Shopify's current Ship and Carry Out documentation says quantities of the same variant must use the same delivery method. CounterDue is testing that exact edge—not replacing Shopify's existing pickup or shipping tools. Read Shopify's documentation ↗
The beta keeps the merchant workflow deliberately small: waiting, ready, collected.
Cashier sets 4 today, 1 later without leaving the POS flow.
The app re-reads fulfillment state. If anything is ambiguous, it stops.
The owed quantity moves from Waiting to Ready in the operational queue.
Only the app-owned hold is released; the exact owed quantity is fulfilled.
Veil leaves today. Gown arrives months later.
Four chairs are in stock. The fifth is ordered.
Available sizes leave now. Missing units are made to order.
Parts or products are sold before the balance is on hand.
The technical spike treats Shopify as canonical on every retry. It records exact app-owned holds, verifies quantities after mutations, and sends mismatches to Needs Attention.
CounterDue expected 5 chairs but Shopify now reports 4. No fulfillment mutation was attempted.
One POS location · additional locations planned at $10/month.
Pricing is being validated and may change before public launch. No subscription is charged by this prelaunch page.
Yes. Shopify added POS future pickup workflows in 2026. CounterDue is not trying to replace generic pickup. The beta is for mixed take-now / owe-later cases, especially part of the same variant quantity.
No. The technical design keeps Shopify as the canonical order and fulfillment system. The app stores the minimum operational state needed to track the owed quantity.
The app re-reads Shopify before mutations and after retries. Ambiguous state goes to Needs Attention rather than being fulfilled optimistically.
Not yet. The product is in a technical and merchant-validation phase. The private beta opens only after the real POS acceptance test passes.
